Restaurant "Staria Chinar" в София

We had lunch at this restaurant and were truly impressed. The place is very charming and beautifully decorated, the service is highly professional, and the food is excellent. We started with a Gypsy Pie as an appetizer — absolutely recommended — and for the main course we had BBQ pork ribs served with fries, which were delicious. To finish, we tried the San Sebastian cheesecake, and it was just as good. Highly recommended!

I visited “Stariya Chinar Dondukov” (Restaurant “Stariya Chinar”) because I wanted to try Bulgarian cuisine and had heard it was popular locally. The restaurant was lively and quite busy, showing that it’s well supported by both locals and tourists. The atmosphere felt welcoming, with a good balance between a calm setting and a sense of energy. The food overall was “normally good.” Nothing was overly strong in flavor, so even those trying Bulgarian food for the first time should be able to enjoy it comfortably. There wasn’t a particular dish that left a very strong impression, but everything was stable in quality and easy to enjoy without any risk. On the other hand, the Bulgarian wine recommended by the staff was excellent and ended up being the most memorable part of the meal. It paired well with the food and clearly elevated the overall dining experience. It’s a good place to enjoy Bulgarian cuisine together with local wine.

An excellent restaurant! Atmosphere, food, service. Everything was satisfactory. We really enjoyed our dinner there and shared many different plates (more than shown in photos). All were tasty and fresh! We would gladly return here. A must when in Sofia!

Cool place in a quirky building with excellent grilled meats. They were able to accommodate a walk in and the restaurant looks like it can cater for groups of all sizes. It was popular with locals and everyone seemed to be enjoying their time there. A nice spot for dinner or lunch in a lesser-known neighbourhood off the tourist trail.

Absolutely awesome service. Great food, vegan options, friendly and helpful staff. We got this place recommended by a local, and it was a wonderful experience. Group of 5 people, no long waiting, simply 10/10.
