Moma Bulgarian Food and Wine в София

We went to Moma on a Thursday evening. The food was genuinely excellent and the décor is absolutely gorgeous. However, there was a serious issue with the staff and overall atmosphere on the first floor where we were seated. We cannot speak for downstairs. It is difficult to pinpoint exactly what went wrong, but something clearly was not working, and training is definitely needed. We felt half ignored throughout the evening. As travellers who had never experienced Bulgarian cuisine before, we would have appreciated a bit of guidance or enthusiasm, but none was offered. We had barely been eating our starters for five minutes when our mains arrived. The food itself was delicious, but the pacing felt rushed and disjointed, which made the experience strange. Later, after looking at the dessert menu, we said we needed a few minutes. We then struggled to get the waitress’s attention, even after waving twice. We were finally acknowledged about half an hour later. The manager had greeted us warmly at the beginning and later asked how everything was. We honestly could not fully explain what had happened. It felt like a lack of communication and possibly tired or overworked staff who had simply given up. Whatever the cause, it really impacted the evening, which was disappointing. The food was excellent. That makes it even harder to separate the quality of the cuisine from the feeling we were left with. I’ve given 3 purely because of the quality of the food. Unfortunately it was marred by the atmosphere and general service.

The restaurant smells very nice, the interior design is impressive and cozy. I didn’t enjoy sitting on the bench because I can feel all the movements from the other customers. The rose cocktail is gorgeous. The other dishes are all quite impressive. It’s not very salty like most other restaurants.

Food - In general food was very nice, we like the our starter (6 traditional appetizer), the bread with the sharena sol went very well with the appetizer, we love it) - The lemonade rose drink also very refreshing to drink - Main course, the chicken and the trout were also good - Dessert : these 2 cakes were also delicious, but the rose cake was so sweet. So let's say it is good but not like wow Plus they have a lot variety of wine 2. Service - Fast service, nice and everyone is very polite 3. Atmosphere Bulgarian songs, and the decorations made you feel like you are in Bulgaria 4. Price I would say since this restaurant made me feel like their target is tourists, so it is expensive 5. Convenient Easy to find and easy to walk there just 10 mins from the Serdika metro station I would say I never seen a tip culture from any restaurants in Europe before, but in this store, the service are not included in the bill, so you have to choose 7%, 10% or 15% for the service tip.

We really enjoyed our meal of a traditional Bulgarian cuisine. I had the beef stew with root vegetables, shopska salad and loved the wine recommendation. Highly recommend in central Sofia for late lunch or dinner. Ambiance was warm with traditional Bulgarian decor and portraits of traditional Bulgarian women. Lovely place and great food. Portions of our main courses were larger than other restaurants we tried.

Overall no complaints. The food was really good and reasonably priced. The waiters were attentive. The inside of the restaurant is quite cute and feels traditional without being over the top.
