Fake French is a great conceptual restaurant in Sofia, and it’s rare that you find places with such attention to detail! A reservation is an absolute must - don’t count on being seated without one. We were welcomed with an appetizer consisting of bread and butter. It was really enjoyable, but we had to ask for additional bread to finish off the leftover butter. We were charged for it, and we were not informed it was extra in advance, which was disappointing. The tables are extremely close by, especially when it comes to groups of two. It feels like you’re seated with people next to you. That being said, the food was quite tasty, and the options were interesting and unique. We enjoyed the onion soup, truffle cauliflower, and the duck magret. The food combinations were amazing, and it was really good overall. However, it can get quite heavy for some people. Portions are big, which is a plus in my eyes at least. The food is somewhat overpriced, and we spent about 40 BGN per person despite not drinking any alcohol. All in all, it brought a great and refreshing French atmosphere rarely found in Sofia, but keep the prices in mind when visiting.

The food at this restaurant was truly wonderful, and the quality of the dishes is undeniable. However, it is not a very financially accessible place. I don’t think many people could afford to dine here more than once or twice, so it’s definitely a restaurant you visit occasionally rather than regularly. The Allard salad was very filling, especially thanks to the perfectly cooked œuf à la coque, which added both richness and balance to the dish. The chicken with mushrooms was outstanding – the sauce was extremely delicate and refined, and the vegetables were very well combined with the chicken, creating a harmonious and comforting dish. As a welcome, we were served bread and butter. Both were excellent in quality, although I felt the portion of butter was a bit too generous, as quite a lot was left untouched. While the food itself is excellent, it’s important to keep the financial aspect in mind when choosing this restaurant. Additionally, most of the tables are placed very close to one another, so it’s not an ideal place if you’re looking for privacy or an intimate conversation. Overall, a great culinary experience, but one that requires planning – both in terms of budget and expectations.

On the walls you’ll find a French-speaking animated rooster in various cool poses, reminding guests that there is no ketchup in the restaurant and that good food goes hand in hand with responsibility toward what we consume. These details complete and reinforce the restaurant’s overall identity. The food is not only delicious but also beautifully presented, with great attention to detail. The dishes look like small works of art, and the stylish touch of the restaurant’s name written on the plates is particularly striking. The onion soup deserves special mention. Incredibly aromatic and flavorful, it definitely stands out among the highlights. The tables are positioned close together, which makes the space noisier, but for us this was not a drawback, rather, it felt like part of the authentic bistro experience. The music is carefully selected: 1970s hits reinterpreted in modern, chill arrangements, diverse yet unobtrusive. The service deserves special praise. The staff know the menu in detail and respond quickly and professionally, without unnecessary showmanship or pretension, while remaining exceptionally polite, friendly, and welcoming. It is highly recommended to make a reservation in advance, as the chances of finding a free table without one are very slim, especially on weekends. The restaurant is quite popular. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant without hesitation. It’s a place that naturally brings together character, great flavor, and a wonderful atmosphere. Perfect for a romantic date, a dinner with friends, or simply for those moments when you’re in the mood for something different, well-prepared, and truly delicious.

Friendly, knowledgeable and made our experience pleasant. I hope more restaurants in Sofia follow the lead of this place as it will lead to a solid scene in this emerging European capital.

Everything feels thoughtful and comforting. The menu is small and changes with the seasons, which we really appreciate, and there’s always something special on it. Tonight we had a pumpkin salad with beautifully seasoned ingredients and a great dressing, a pâté with wild mushrooms that was rich and earthy, and a beef dish that was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor (the kind of plate where you don’t want it to end). Desserts are always a highlight here. The vanilla soufflé is a classic for a reason — light, fragrant, and perfectly done. We also shared profiteroles with a house-made jam, and they were just perfect. The service is always warm and welcoming. Professional, but never stiff. Kind, friendly, and genuinely attentive in a way that makes you feel taken care of. We’re leaving full, calm, and very grateful for this meal.
