The conditions are not the best, but I believe they are doing the best they can. The volunteers do an amazing job, and it’s heartbreaking to see so many dogs in such situations. Still, every effort counts, and I truly hope more people come forward to adopt them.

The local shelter at Gorni Bogrov is one of the three Sofia shelters for stray dogs. Being the biggest one in the region (and the country) it holds more than 1,500 animals. The living conditions are not perfect, but the shelter works with some organisations, such as the 1500 Dog Gang, to improve them and boost the adoption program. One such initiative is the Sunday Walks, which invites people inside the shelter every Sunday to walk and socialize the animals. The shelter is also home to many abandoned pure breeds, such as pitbulls, cane corsos, mastiffs, bulldogs and others.

The shelter was okay, went there to walk the doggies during the weekend (they have a volunteer option over the weekends where you can walk dogs). The shelter is super understaffed roughly 10ish (1-2 vets) people for 1500 dogs, so any help is much welcome. Despite the lack of staff, they are trying their best, the cages are cleaned, there is food. And please, please consider adopting a dog, everything is listed on their website

Always a good idea to go there on Sunday from 10-2 pm and have a walk or multiple walks with the adorable dogs there. The staff is amazing and dogs have such good souls, so excited to see humans. Don't miss out on the opportunity to have a furry friend and make their lives 100 times better

If you like dogs and/or want to do a good deed, you can go on Sundays(10:00 - 14:00) and walk some of the dogs there. You are going to enjoy it, the dogs will enjoy it even more.
