American University in Bulgaria – Main Building [AUBG MB] в Благоевград

I applied to AUBG as an American who’s never left the country before. The process to apply to the school and accepting my admissions offer was easy, the issue came with the Embassy’s. When my High School refused to give me a paper stating that i would graduate that year (though I was in perfect academic standing and there was no possible way I could NOT graduate by that point), it delayed my Visa process by a long shot, AUBG told me to still arrive to campus on time for orientation and I could go to the Bulgarian Embassy in Greece to get my visa. Close to the end of September, the school informed me that the Embassy in Greece no longer allowed students to go there to obtain their Visa. I had to travel back to America to get it. Due to the finances that went into tuition and having to abruptly fly back, I could not continue. While this is not the University’s fault, it did make it difficult to attend. While I was at AUBG for the month I was there, i experienced many people including professors, consistently talk bad about my Country infront of me. While America is far from perfect, being a freshman in college for the first time, and that far away from home (U.S) for the first time, I found myself not being able to get over the home sickness as people were constantly talking ill of my home. My roomates experience was amazing, I loved my roomate with all my heart, however with the dorms, many had one window in each room that the screen was broken, which one night (when it was hot and the window was open for air flow) a stray cat got into my room. Overall, my experience was above average, however the small things such as talking bad about one’s home, could improve others experiences.

Nice architecture and well kept area.

The building is a bit old-style, but the flag gallery and the marble floors are beautiful.

Good professors, classmates, and one of the best facilities in this country make AUBG an amazing university.
