Hambara is a true hidden gem in the heart of Sofia — a place so mysterious it feels like stepping back in time. There’s no sign outside: you have to find an unmarked wooden door on a dark side street and knock to be let in, and this touch of secrecy is a huge part of its charm. Once inside, you’re welcomed by a magical atmosphere. There’s no electricity, only dozens of candles scattered around the room, creating a warm, intimate and captivating mood. The wooden furniture, antique tables and vintage decor make the space feel incredibly authentic, almost like an old medieval tavern frozen in time. The drink selection is simple but well chosen: local beers, wine, rakia and classic cocktails, all reasonably priced. A couple of things to keep in mind: smoking is allowed inside, so it may not be ideal if you’re sensitive to smoke. It’s also worth noting that they may only take cash, so it’s best to bring some with you.

Just been there. It’s a tourist trap! No one was at the door, so we had to wait 10 minutes outside. When the door opened, the girl at the bar didn’t even acknowledge us. The place stank so bad I wanted to throw up. The blonde barista robbed us, cause the menu behind her wasn’t visible (there is literally no way to read it because of the lack of light) and we ordered an aperol and a martini. She asked us 15€ and I payed but I was confused cause she had to check on her phone to tell us the price. I took a picture of the menu and zoomed in, seeing that the price was different (3,58€ for the aperol and 3,07€ for the martini). I confronted the girl but she just told me it was an old menu. It was obviously not cause the menu was still on the wall behind her back. I DONT RECCOMEND THIS PLACE NOT EVEN TO MY WORST ENEMY.

Bar staff rude but awesome atmosphere tbf. Would go back but maybe ask a Bulgarian to order for you if you’re a tourist - I got the feeling they hated tourists. But it was a super cool experience so I would still recommend

For an intimate date, this should absolutely be your go-to in the center of Sofia. The ambiance reels you in so much you forget the bustling city few metres away. I believe they moved already (can't be sure), but the aesthetic is eating, truly. Some of the drinks on their menu aren't available yet, but you sure wouldn't mind picking any drink just to soak in the overall feels of being there.

Crazy, dark, candlelit place. Hard to find as it is at the end of a spooky alley withouta sign. You have to knock hard on the door until they open... Ambience is great, nice music. We didn't stay long enough to check the service.
